The FFWS Peer Mentoring Program hosts events throughout the academic year.

Future Events

New Climber Night at the Bakke

Friday, December 6

8 – 9 pm

Bakke Recreation Center

Join the FFWS Peer Mentors at the New Climber Night at the Bakke! This event is an opportunity for those new to rock climbing to learn the basics. This event is through UW-Madison RecWell and is free for all students, so feel free to bring friends! You just need to sign up for the 8-9 pm time slot on this link and let us know you’re coming by filling out this RSVP form. The FFWS peer mentors will be meeting in the main atrium of the Bakke at 7:45pm. Please let us know if you would like to walk over to the Bakke in a group, and we can organize that! If you have any questions, please contact ffws@advising.wisc.edu.

FFWS Craft & Pizza Night

When: Tuesday, November 12; Drop-in anytime between 5 – 7:30 pm

Where: Ingraham Hall, Room 225

Who: All FFWS students welcome – freshmen through upper-class scholars

If you’re looking for some cozy fall activities and time to unwind from classes, join us at the FFWS Comfort and Crochet Craft Night! We will be painting tote bags and learning how to crochet! We will be serving Ian’s Pizza and beverages for dinner/a snack. This event is also the perfect opportunity to check in with your peer mentor! All painting and crochet supplies will be provided, but if you have your own crochet hooks or yarn, feel free to bring those.

FFWS Fall ’24 Kickoff!

Discovery Building (330 N Orchard St) H. F. DeLuca Forum – Rm. 1255

There will be free food, games, a Kahoot, prizes, and the opportunity to learn more about FFWS and ask any questions! You’ll meet the FFWS team including your peer mentors! Feel free to bring a friend. You can wear whatever you feel comfortable in, and you can come and go as it works with your schedule.

Spring Send-Off Picnic

When: Friday, April 19 from 3 – 4:30 pm (drop-in whenever you’re available)

Where: Grassy area behind Middleton building, in front of social work building (Google maps location)

We will have outdoor games, color by number pages, sandwiches, beverages, and a space to socialize/study!

FFWS Craft and Study Night

When: Monday, December 4; Drop-in anytime between 5 – 7 pm

Where: Middleton Building Room 120

We’ll have hot chocolate, tea, crafts (friendship bracelets, coloring, crochet), and space to study. This is also a great time to check in with your peer mentors about any questions you have related to the grant, getting adjusted to campus, finals, winter break, or anything else.

This end of the year bash will include awesome outdoor activities to celebrate the end of the school year, free Panera, as well as University Book Store gift cards and FFWS merch giveaways!!

Slow Food Family Dinner

When: Monday, March 6 at 6:30 pm

Where: The Crossing, 1127 University Ave

Cost: $0 (Tell the cashier that you’re with FFWS, record your name on our attendance sheet, and FFWS will pay Slow Food based on the number of mentees that attend. Come and get some free food!)

Menu: Mediterranean Quinoa Bowl with Falafel, Hummus, & Tzatziki Sauce; Naan; and Baklava (gluten free and vegan options are available)

Please join us at an FFWS table for some community building and fun. If you indicated on your RSVP that you would like to bring a friend, please bring them along and have them sign in!

Trivia Night at The Sett in Union South

February 20 at 7pm! 

We would love for you to join our FFWS team in a game of trivia, and feel free to bring a friend along too! The winning teams receive Wisconsin Union gift cards! See the attached flyer for details.

FFWS Lake Hike

Thursday, February 9; 5 – 7 pm

Meet by Peet’s Coffee in Memorial Union at 5 pm

Join your Fund for Wisconsin Scholars peers for a candlelight walk across Lake Mendota organized by Hoofer Outing Club. We’ll meet by Peet’s Coffee in Memorial Union at 5 pm on Thursday, Feb 9. Enjoy a free drink from Peet’s on us before heading out to enjoy the view of the city and the stars from beautiful Lake Mendota! Registration isn’t required.

FFWS Study and Self-Care Night

Thursday, December 8th; 5:30pm – 7pm

Career Exploration Center in Ingraham Hall (1155 Observatory Dr, Madison, WI 53706)

  • We will be making DIY Glitter Jars for you to keep and use to help calm your nerves for and during finals.
  • Free food! (Qdoba)
  • Learn about campus study resources such as GUTS
  • Study with and get to know other FFWS grant recipients and your peer mentors!
