Karen Thomas

Director of the Office of Online Student Success

Karen Thomas is the Interim Director of the Office of Online Student Success. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse with an MSEd. in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education, and a BA in Psychology and Human Resources from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She has served in a variety of roles at UW-Madison since 2008, most recently as the Director of Online Student Experience within the Division of Continuing Studies, where she worked closely with stakeholders and campus partners to ensure a quality digital experience for online learners. As a proud first-generation student, Karen has always been passionate about advocating for students and prides herself on creating inclusive communities through an intentional collaborative approach. She is the current president of the Madison Student Personnel Association (SPA) and serves as co-chair for the Transfer Advocates Working Group (TAWG). As a Madison native, Karen enjoys trying out new local restaurants, spending time with family, especially her 4-month old daughter, Raegan, and is always looking for her next home DIY project.
