Julie Stubbs

Position title: Director of the Undergraduate Academic Awards Office

Email: julie.stubbs@wisc.edu

As Director of the Undergraduate Academic Awards Office, Julie leads the UAA team in advising undergraduates and recent graduates on campuswide awards and national scholarship opportunities. UAA office staff help students find scholarship opportunities that match their interests, and work with them as they navigate the scholarship application process, request letters of recommendation, develop scholarship essays, and prepare for scholarship interviews. The UAA team believes the application process is a valuable learning experience with benefits beyond winning. This includes reflecting on your experiences and values, developing educational and career goals, and learning to write and speak persuasively about your aspirations.

Undergraduate Academic Awards welcomes student referrals and encourages staff to reach out directly at awards@provost.wisc.edu to request a scholarship information session tailored to the unique interests of their specific student population. Also, the office is always looking for faculty and staff to serve on scholarship review committees and mock interview panels. Please reach out to Julie at the email above if you are interested!

Julie is a member of the National Association of Fellowships Advisors and the National Scholarship Providers Association, and has worked at the UW-Madison since 2005. She holds a BA in History from Marquette University, and an MA in Women’s and Gender Studies and PhD in History from the University of Michigan. Off campus, you’ll find Julie hiking through state and national parks, listening to political podcasts, and reading novels by Margaret Atwood and Toni Morrison. She lives southeast of Madison with her husband, two kids, and four cats.
