History

 

2012: The Madison Initiative for Undergraduates (MIU) grant funds the creation of the Office of Undergraduate Advising (OUA) to provide central leadership and coordination to cross-campus undergraduate advising

2012: The Academic Advising & Policy Leaders (AAPL) is formed

2012: The Center for Pre-Health and the Center for Pre-Law are established

2012: The MIU grant funds additional positions in Cross-College Advising Service to expand advising services in University residence halls

2012: The new Council on Academic Advising (CAA) is formed under the leadership of OUA

2013: A website for professional advising staff is created, providing information on training, professional development resources, and student resources – www.advising.wisc.edu/facstaff

2013: OUA hosts the first UW-Madison Advising Conference

2013: The Advisory Board for Advisor Training (ABfAT) is formed – renamed the Advising Training & Development Team in 2017

2013: Presentation of first campus-wide UW-Madison Advising Awards

2013: Creation of cross-campus advising on-boarding training series

2013: OUA assumes co-leadership of the Orientation Advising Committee (OAT), responsible for planning the implementation of SOAR

2014: The first Advising Committee Summit is held, bringing together all members of OUA’s cross-campus advisory committees

2015: The student facing undergraduate advising website is launched, www.advising.wisc.edu

2015: Formation of the BioScience Advising Team (BAT), the 6th cross-campus advising committee

2015: OUA partners with UW-Athletics for their annual Spring Game Fundraiser, raising over $34,000 for advisor professional development grants.

2015: The Advising Gateway is launched

2016: Launched a comprehensive Tutoring & Learning Support Resources webpage and search engine

2016: The first Advising professional development grants are awarded, allowing advisors to access national professional development opportunities and visit other campuses to learn from innovative advising, outreach, and student services practices

2016: ATDT forms the Advisor Book & Film Club

2016: The Art of Advising training series is launched

2016: The Advising Supervisors Community-of Practice is formed

2016: The Career Exploration Center’s holds a Grand Re-Opening in a new and improved space in Ingraham Hall

2016: The Guide is launched as a result of advocacy and collaboration from OUA and the Registrar’s Office, replacing the old academic catalog as the single source of academic policy and information in a new, online format

2016: In response to the recommendations of the 2016 cross-campus Career Services Task Force, campus leadership tasked the Office of Undergraduate Advising with supporting the career services community. 2017: The Enrollment App is launched, the first step in improving and consolidating campus enrollment tools

2018: OUA implements Handshake which replaces BuckyNet and myECS as the campus system for connecting students with potential employers
